March 2006

So, my first day in New York is almost behind me. My legs ache but I’ve covered quite a lot of Manhattan’s attractions – and some totally unattractive streets where tourists rather don’t venture. And here are some of my experiences and observations of the day. (more…)

Got in. Flight from Cracow to Munich was delayed, as usual, but Lufthansa was this time up to the task and they moved me and – as it turned out – my luggage swiftly so that I did catch my flight to JFK. Uneventful 9 hours passed relatively quickly. I got to my hotel European style – via subway from JFK. I felt a bit weird, though, as for the most part of my journey the train was almost empty – and I was the only white passenger as far as I could see. I finally walked a few blocks to discover that my hotel is really very close to Time Square.

There is an interesting atmosphere here. I have a feeling that if I mind my own business no one pays attention to me, which is nice. And there is lots of energy in the air, though everybody seems relaxed. I know it sounds contradictory but I don’t know how to describe it.

Anyway, it seems almost surreal that I’m really here.

I’m packing up for my trip to the US. I would post some updates along my way, but don’t expect them to be long. I want to see everything there is to see and experience all there is to experience, not type on my PB all the time.
