Yeah, I'm excited about technology that makes it faster and easier to communicate, but at the same time it freaks me out. I hate that if I don't answer my cell phone people get mad because they know you probably have it with you. Then you get, "Why didn't you answer your cell phone?" I'm a social person, but I also need a whole lot of uninterrupted "me time".

Neat post, thanks! I expect, as you note, that the emotional adjustment will be significant, although I also suspect that this will be ameliorated by... what else? in a capitalist economy the power to facilitate some kind of consumption whether tangible or not. In fact, I would not be surprised if, in recognition that people will at some point miss "getting away from it all," a singular strategy will be to indeed sell them just that. It will be interesting to see how folks adapt mindfulness practices to technological (and everything that comes with it) omnipresence. A mindfulness practice slogan, as counterfactual as it sounds, could be: "stop, turn off, tune out!" Maybe not. In any case, thanks again. I've been reading Manuel Castells lately (the Networked Society, etc.) and this connected quite well with that.

Best,

People are angered that when I have a mobil, I don't ring them or that I have it turned off. Truth is, that I do not wish to be a person that has a phone permanently affixed to her ear.

The influence of technology in our lives never ceases to amaze me.

I seldom use cellphone.

I hardly make personal calls.
And my business is on line.
