OK, the word "craftsman" can be interpreted in various ways. I meant "craftsmen" as people who work 9-5, do maybe even a decent job but don't put their heart into it. For them it is just a job, an activity they have to do to get money they need to do what they really want to.

When it comes to programming being akin to art - I don't agree. Good developers are very similar to artists, especially in their emotional attachment to their creations.

I agree with most of your points, but I really don't understand why people depreciate craftsmanship so much. Craftsman can be highly skilled individuals, able to create beautiful things, and be passionate in what they do. Programming is definitely a creative activity, but not an artistic one -- and code is rarely a work of art.

Of course there are many possible interpretations of the word artist, but if we start to stretch it too much, we end with a conclusion that everybody is an artist.
