That's a great point. It can be limiting for no good reason.

No, my mind doesn't mind. :)

I kind of agree with you. What you describe is a bit like using a projection of future guilt as touchstone, gauge for what we are about to do. And yes, it can be practical but I would say: be careful with it. People sometimes feel guilty for things they don't have real connection with or because of other people's problems.

For example someone might envision than if she enters into a relationship with a particular man her parents will be disturbed and upset. Feeling guilty because of that doesn't make sense since it is their problem that they can't accept her choices and support her in them. Hence, basing a decision on this projection of guilt would probably lead to a bad choice.

I hope I expressed clearly what I mean, though I'm also not in disagreement with you. :)

Buddhism is LOADED with wisdom that other religions kind of try to tap into.
I must say though, (NOT a disagreement) that the feeling of guilt has actually taught me about what to do and what not to. It does seem that it serves no purpose, but it's not something that you can SEE at all. It helps in making decisions... usually if in a bind about wheather I should or shouldn't do something it helps a whole lot to ask myself if it's something that I would feel guilty about.

Fearful, on the other hand... fear is what churches, governments, and most large organizations use to control people.

I saw your post on wayofthemind and clicked your name. Hope ya dont... MIND. HAHAHHAA... eh.
